Autumn Reflections

The days are getting shorter and today is the first day of fall. We finally have a chance to assess the summer ministry. This summer was exciting as we watched God move in unexpected ways. We hosted teams from Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ, St. Mary[s Coptic Orthodox Church, Darke County Youth for Christ, Vineyard Church in Bradford, Ohio, and First Wesleyan Church in South Carolina. It was exciting to watch as God moved in our groups and in the community. Our times of listening prayer were such a blessing. The ministry times at Promesa have grown and we are able to minister in parts of the hospital where we have not been before. It is awesome to be able to offer hope to the hopeless. We continue to help with the Sunday ministry there. The Living Room Shelter has relocated and we were able to feed the “residents’ each week and minister there. Our migrant worker ministry was a blessings as we we visited daily and provided snacks, the Word and encouragement to those waiting for work. We also continue to minister at the Senior Center and everyone so enjoys the participants there. We were able to have Vacation Bible School all summer for children in the neighborhood and build relationships through families through that and through the community cookouts.
In July, we sent one of our boys, Fausto, to live in Ohio for the summer. His second day he broke his arm in a dirt bike accident. But God used that time of healing to bond him with some of our family and friends and Fausto has now moved there. He is enrolled in school and has a job.
We also took 12 other boys there for visit. The visit was cut short, but the trip is one I’m sure the boys will never forget.
The past few months has brought several changes.
As many of you know, Harve had been filling in as pastor at the church where we are housed. That position ended in August. This opened the door for us to begin church services with StreetLight ( our local ministry) again. Beginning October 2 we will have worship services on Sunday in the parsonage at the church. We are excited because neighbors have been requesting the service. Please pray that StreetLight Christian Center will indeed be a Light in the streets and provide a church home for many who are without one.
Our boys are growing up. Most of them are in high school now which seems hard to believe. Several have moved from the neighborhood but continue to come. We also have several new ones. We are hoping to begin children’s ministry again this fall also.
Sadly, we are saying farewell to Kendra and Jose Anglero. They are moving to Ohio on Saturday, September 24. They have been an important part of our ministry and I am sure they will continue to partner with us in any possible. We wish them God’s abundant blessings as they participate in a church plant there.
Rachel, Ronal and Axel have moved from Honduras to our home in Ohio. They are helping with JUMP by housing Fausto and helping us to explore launching an Urban Student Exchange. This will take Bronx students and place them in families in Ohio or elsewhere either for the summer or longer period.
Please pray for our direction in all of this. The owners of our building are still planning to destroy the building and rebuild with Co-op apartments to support the project. Pray for God’s wisdom in this and pray that His Church will prevail whatever the outcome.
Thanks to all of you for your continued support through prayer, financial gifts, volunteer work and encouragement. We are truly blessed by all of you.
